Stargazers

Here is the finished article. Painted on canvas paper and about A4 in size. What started out like a great idea to paint on this kind of paper has turned into something of a nightmare as the paper is so textured it took ages to get paint on. If you zoom in on the bigger picture you can see the texture of the linen and although arduous, I am pleased with the final result.

I was looking at the flower pictures you have in the cradle at the exhibition today, which I assume are painted on the same kind of paper. They have a really rich, warm, soft feel to them. They also seem more realistic than the larger flower paintings, almost photographic from a little distance…(that’s not intended as a positive or negative comment, just an observation :) ) I was going to say that perhaps the scale of the paintings allows for smoother blending of the paint, which perhaps accounts for this realism, but looking at the rose picture in the exhibition, it’s very loose and realistic, so it’s not that…whatever it is, it’s certainly very magical :)

Lovely colours, I like the way you have light at the back getting richer and deeper in colour to the front.
