Some work in progress to share...

One of my current commissions is a gift, from a husband to a wife. The brief was calla lilies and a dark background, to hang alongside a passionflower painting I had been previously commissioned to paint.

I wanted the lilies to symbolise an enduring togetherness, where its almost but not quite impossible to tell where one lily starts and another begins. And you cannot decide who is leaning on whom, sometimes its one, sometimes its the other.
This is a paintlet, about 20 cm across. Which serves as a sample for colour match and composition. I am going to build a deeper, more passionate purple/pink into the petals.

This one works really well Sue, I think you’ve expressed the symbolism you’re after superbly. You’ve captured a moment of togetherness and tenderness beautifully. No wonder your customers keep coming back for more :)

Hi Sue - I'm not going to leave a sychophantic comment like Graham!

Your flowers pictures are good, are can clearly earn you a living. However, your 'diamond' painting shows that you have a lot more to give. I'd like to see you take a few risks and take on some different subject matter.

Very true. Sometimes its difficult to develop new work when you have a handful of commissions on the go. I like to experiment when I can immerse myself completely in a project in hand....which was the case for the diamond.....and I do delight in taking risks when I get half the chance. ;-) Time or lack thereof, alas, often intervenes.

Sorry Sue - I tend to forget that not everyone is in the cloister like me :-).

I hope that you soon have a chance to spread your wings.

I love the way the flowers seem to be from the same stem - lovely symbolism.

As a lover of the colour purple I'm looking forward to the new colours.
