Girl in pink bandana

Did some more on this portrait this morning. Its 'step away from the canvas' time for now until the piant has dried. I really am enjoying this style of painting.

I love the colours you’re getting in there Sue, very intense...like her/your expression…Self portraits are always interesting, because you can be so honest when painting them, you don’t have to please a client/sitter, you can just let out your emotions and get them down on the canvas…it certainly looks like you’re going for that here :)

Nice stuff.

Thanks both. This painting has been a steep learning curve for me. Not least the realisation that sometimes less is more when painting portraits. If I had gone for a proper likeness I suspect I would have come a cropper and so contented myself with using me as a model in the absence of anyone else (volunteers always welcome).
I wanted to produce something that was a little kitsch-y...a bit like that spanish lady painting that adorned so many living room walls back in the 50s.

I really like this, lovely colours, but most of all I like the loosness of it.

I've held off from posting a comment thus far because the colours in this painting really remind me of something (good) and I can't for the life of me remember what (Gauguin?)!

It's always really exciting seeing an artist dive off in a new direction, and even more exciting when they triumph, as you have :-)

Like natural attrill, I like the relaxed feel most of all - with your bobbed hair the feel rather rather 'jazz age'.

I hope this painting reflects a relaxation and confidence in you too.

Thank you P and Miss T. I am certainly experimenting with diversifying my technique and as I have grown in confidence over these past couple of years, I find myself that little bit more willing to try out something new and outside my comfort zone. I realise this must at least on some level reflect an increased self confidence that comes with getting older and wiser.
